Plymouth University Summer School Workshop
Second Plymouth Summer School Workshop with Drawing Together
Reinventing Myself –
Schools Workshop exploring the concept of self; using paper based mask making and blind drawing
Drawing Together worked with Plymouth University Summer School on a second project. Again working with the Chinese university students and this time on reinventing themselves. The mask making started with a session of blind drawing. many of the students where intrigued by the concept and a few found it quite hard to work with the concept of error or misinterpretation. However I think that as they gained confidence, through seeing others who had been brave enough to try, most of the students did produce interesting drawings.

From their drawing the idea was to create giant paper masks of their recreated selves. There were as many interpretations as masks…
One of the key components of any creative workshop is to foster a sense of achievement in the students and as the afternoon progressed the masks became ever more fanciful and ambitious.
To end the afternoon participants stood next to a white board on which they drew speech bubbles and where able to “Talk” to each other. This ended the afternoon on a very happy note.
The feedback to the University Summer School staff was very positive indeed. Its always a pleasure to work with such resourceful students.
