Sand, Glue and Fabric – craft workshop
Holly Burton, working with the Craft Council Uk on an Artists Project design archive; a workshop for families (and others!) with a “making” activity inspired by the work of Catherine Bertola, specifically her dust carpet stencils that she is making as part of the Crafts Council’s Acts of Making project.
Acts of Making will be coming to Plymouth in September 2015 which will be celebrated with a further workshop in the Museum too. More information on AofM here: http://www.craftscouncil.org.uk/what-we-do/acts-of-making/
We provided all the materials needed for families and children to make their own Catherine Berlota stencils (although we did not use dust!) but participants did create their own stencil design and print, inspired by objects from the Crafts Council Collection, and contributed to a large scale group piece. We mimicked Catherine’s technique by using glue and sprinkling coloured sand through the stencils onto fabric to create designs.
I had a great day and time just flew by. Latex glue is something I will be using again….loved it! I hope I am asked to assist on a Crafts Council Uk Project again soon.
